A stunning Victorian gilded sterling silver locket and chain. The oval hinged locket 46.77 x 35.19. The front with geometric and foliate hand engraving with a raised central plain motif with geometric detailing and a raised ball. The sides of the locket fluted. The back plain with hallmarks for Birmingham 1880. Makers mark M.J.G.  A plain bale surmount with a large bolt ring connecting a single decorative drop length of chain with a quatrefoil motif engraved with a flower. A larger bolt ring above which connects a wide linked chain with engraved quatrefoil motifs alternating with engraved geometric links with plain borders. The back plain with no engraving. Length chain 44.5cm.  The piece can be worn in a variety of ways. The locket by itself, the chain by itself or all together with or without using the decorative drop extension. The sterling silver with a lovely light gold bloom. A versatile piece of jewellery. In beautiful condition.
