An antique 18ct yellow gold lapis signet ring. The gold flecked lapis with an intaglio ‘J’ in script. The mount plain with tapering shoulders and hallmarks for Birmingham 1898. Maker WHH &Co. Size O. Weight: 5.4gms. Pliny the Elder wrote that lapis lazuli is "opaque and sprinkled with specks of gold".  It was thought the stone combined the blue of the heavens and the golden glitter of the sun.
