A rare Victorian sterling silver vinaigrette with all over foliate engraving. The hinged lid opening to reveal a perforated gilded grille hinged to hold a perfume soaked sponge. Hallmarks for Birmingham 1841. On a vintage sterling silver cable chain with a bolt ring clasp. Length: 61cm. Vinaigrettes were used by ladies to ward off unpleasant smells. A lovely piece worn as a necklace.
